Introducing The Hardline According To

Do you remember Terence Trent D’Arby, back in the day? Honestly, I thought his break out album, “ITHATTTD,” dropped before 1987. The record feels more early ’80s than later. Well I suppose that is neither here nor there. What is something to note is Terence could sing. His high tenor pipes soar on this record. A myriad of pop, soul, R&B, a little funk and a little rock, D’Arby’s soulful vocals against this musical mixture makes this disc stand-out. There is a little bit of everything on this album; soothing slow rides, thrusting, horn laden dance breaks, Motown memories, a shout out to the motherland and a cool groove or two. My favs are the Sade-esque Sign Your Name, and the catchy Wishing Well. I will say again that D’Arby’s singing is underrated. He really brings it.

“Birds never look into the sun
Before the day is gone
But oh the light shines brighter
On a peaceful day”
